Manchester, 2000
I started in Manchester, England in 2000, working alongside an Italian craftsman who didn’t believe in shortcuts. My father was a craftsman architect, so building things properly wasn’t a business strategy — it was just how things were done in my house.
Twenty-six years later, that’s still the whole philosophy. I don’t create trends that last minutes. I create work that lasts decades.
Colorado
I moved to America and spent around twenty years in Colorado working alongside exceptional tile setters, deck builders, and cabinet makers — master tradesmen who taught me the parts of this business you can’t learn from a video. Eventually I launched my own tile company, All By Design Tile.
After a few years I renamed it The British Remodeler, for a simple reason: I didn’t want to be one-dimensional. Tile will always be my foundation, but I wanted the business to cover the whole remodel — bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, the lot. Hence the name.
You might see a couple of other trade names tied to my name online. Those were side ventures with other people, not my business. The British Remodeler is the one I run.
How I work now
I used to run crews. I scaled back to a solo operation on purpose — it means the person you talk to on the phone is the person who shows up, does the work, and walks the finished job with you. No sales reps, no handoffs, no wondering who’s actually in your house.

Interviews & my podcast
I was interviewed on SWIVL Sessions — “Lasting Work, Not Fast Fads” — about craftsmanship, starting out in Manchester, and building work that lasts decades. I also host Tile Titans, a podcast talking shop with people in the tile trade. Both are linked from the reviews page.
Two businesses, no confusion
The British Remodeler is my remodeling business — bathrooms, kitchens, tile, flooring, handyman. That’s this site, and it’s very much alive.
The Glass Lion is my separate sister brand, and it does one thing: custom mosaic art and murals. Nothing else. If you came here looking for a mosaic commission, you want theglasslion.com.
